The name of this place is derived from the Tamil words literally meaning 'spearcity' or 'city of spears'. Ancient history shows that it was basically a battle field where the warriors used to fight. Due to the geography of the place, it was always left with the used weapons like spears all around the year. It is considered to be one of the oldest surviving cities in South India. What am i referring to..?
