#8) A trivia for my Chennai makkal. It was started as the south Asia's first departmental store in 1863 by Charles Durant and J. W. Spencer, and owned by Eugene Oakshott in Chennai. In 1983, the original building was destroyed in a fire. The present building was constructed in early 1990's by the Mangal Tirth Estate limited.
